Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 (TAS) was held at Makuhari Messe from January 9 to 11.
Daihatsu exhibited custom cars embodying the brand's unique craftsmanship and playful spirit, including the Mira e:S tuned by D SPORT Racing and the HIJET TRUCK PTO DUMP DAIHATSUMEI.

We conducted firsthand interviews with Yoshioka, Matsuda, Yoneyama, and Hata, who were involved in building the vehicles at the venue, to understand the goals and craftsmanship poured into the finished vehicles, along with the creators’ passion behind their approach of “seriously tackling challenges while having fun.”

A lightning-fast modified machine that was made possible only through an unprecedented collaboration.
Embarking on a new initiative by undertaking modifications for SPK Corporation, we started from scratch with no prior experience. However, thanks to the wisdom and help of everyone involved including the Ikeda Plant and relevant departments, we were able to successfully unveil it. We are filled with gratitude!

Driven by a passion for bringing joy to many people, we were responsible for planning and producing this year’s TAS. Based on the PTO DUMP, we have expressed Daihatsu’s passion and history through elements like visors with slogans, interior decorations featuring past HIJET designs, and a deck that doubles as a ring toss game!

The highlight of this year’s TAS was undoubtedly the Daihatsu vs. Toyota Kei-Truck Showdown!
Using Daihatsu’s iconic small car, HIJET, the serious battle saw both companies’ spirit of customization clash head-on! It was a true test of how interesting they could make a vehicle and how much they could delight customers!

The January 12 issue of the Toyota Times features an early look at the day’s events, so be sure to check it out!

The production of Daihatsu’s showdown vehicle, STAR CLIMBER, brought together a team of volunteers who transcended departmental and location boundaries.
Members gathered regardless of department or position, supporting each other, recognizing each other, and inspiring one another as they prepared for this showdown.

Confronting MONODUKURI with unwavering dedication.
A serious approach, yet with genuine enjoyment.
Embracing challenges without fear, finding true delight in the process.

——With that shared passion as our common language, we raced toward the day of TAS event.
We will soon publish an in-depth article on DAIHATSU ONE! exploring behind-the-scenes stories from our partners and the passion for MONODUKURI that were poured into this challenge. Stay tuned!
